Little Monster

The boy worked late, on a mininum wage.

He sneaked some cookies into his mouth when someone came into the house.

A group of children of his age rushed past him. screaming.

One girl announced her birthday happily to everybody.

And a party he realized he wasn’t invited.

The table to be wiped.

The dishes to be washed.

The floor to be mopped.

He skipped the last one, since every children was running around with their dirty socks.

A boy took one cleaned glass and set it on the table.

Water splashed all over and on the working boy’s clothes.

He said hi to the mom, his boss.

But he was ignored.

He quickly finished his job, and found the table to be filled with foods and drinks.

Large boxes of strawberries exactly like the ones he had seen early this morning in the market.

In all the expensive gala and chaos irrelevant to him, he took up his bag and left.

It was his last day. Nobody shook his hand.

Walking alone on the street, he felt something tearing him apart.

He knew what it was.

He would either be called out, be prisoned, or be abandoned.

It was beyond his reach to control.

He was just a child.
