The Last Night

Barbed wire over the high wall.

My insecurities of losing you, losing it all, rushed through the night like Harmattan.

Dry and cold.

In a corner of the deadly city night.

I listened to the party inside the wall.

The party I had planned, the party I ruined minutes ago.

———–

I was really bad at saying goodbye.

But I didn’t want to be haunted by your absence every single night.

———–

Talk to me, moon of the African warrior king.

Who’s gotta know my diary better than him?

Who’s going to bring out the best of me?

———–

A knock on the heavy door.

My embarrassment followed me as I paced back and forth in the corridor.

No one answered. No one called.

I eavesdropped on the faint late night TV show behind the door.

Half wishing you were awake, half wishing you were asleep with loud snore.

———–

Next morning early I woke.

I watched a parrot playing with drizzle on the window sill.

You came in despite all the weird things that were caused by me.

My sorry turned into a silent hug and farewell kisses.

Will we ever meet again? I think so.

I tucked my notes into his hand before time and space seperated us once and for all.
