We sit in silence, knowing the real answer.
I lean on your shoulder, looking at the distance.
A white lion appears.
It yawns at the moon, biting into the air.
Breeze combs its mane, unbothered.
Beyond the plain there’s a river.
You don’t find crocodiles there, I’ve heard.
————————————
We sit together, pushing the oars.
I put my hand in the water, watching it sway like water soldier.
An owl is hooting somewhere.
I listen. You lean over, saying
This should last forever.
————————————
Sticky breath, binding legs, boundless private space.
The boat is rocking like a cradle in the universe.
So when the world sinks, neither of us notice.
The river flows through my veins, strips down my shirt.
We see each other naked, never feeling more honest.
The paper in my pocket folds out and dissolves.
Blue echoes.
Songs of the wild, so soft.
